WORCESTER, MA -- Maryland star linebacker, Marcus Whitfield, patiently waits for day 3 of the NFL Draft to see what his future holds. The 2013 All-ACC Honorable Mention Whitfield has drawn attention from a vast number of teams, including the San Francisco 49'ers, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns.
At the moment, Whitfield is projected anywhere from the 5th-PFA but should expect to hear from a team no later than Saturday evening. Teams have harped on his character and leadership ability and feel that he has the ability to make a difference at the next level. During the Medal of Honor Bowl Week in South Carolina, scouts from 49'ers were constantly in talks with him and have stayed in "close contact" with him according to Whitfield. With the 49'ers looking for an OLB, I'd expect them to sign the Germantown, MD native before the conclusion of the draft.
