1) Since the 2004 NHL lockout, only (2) of the (8) teams that loss Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals went onto win the series.
  • 2011 - Boston Bruins
  • 2009 - Pittsburgh Penguins

Both the '09 Penguins and the '11 Bruins went onto win their respected series in Game 7's after trailing 2-0 to start the series.

2) Last year's Stanley Cup Finals was the first time since the 2004 Finals that a team avoided trailing 2-0 to start the series. The Tampa Bay Lightning won Game 2 after dropping Game 1 to the Calgary Flames. The Lightning would go onto win the series 4-3, enroute to their first - and only - in franchise history.

3) Before the NY Rangers 1994 Stanley Cup Championship, the Rangers last title came in 1940. At that time, there were only (7) teams in the NHL.
  • Boston Bruins
  • Chicago Blackhawks
  • Detroit Red Wings
  • Montreal Canadians
  • New York Americans
  • New York Rangers
  • Toronto Maple Leafs

4) In 2012, the LA Kings won the series' first (3) games. They were the first team to achieve this feat since the 1998 Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings went onto sweep the Washington Capitals, 4-0 - the most recent sweep in Stanley Cup history.
